About the host institution
Institute for the Study of the Earth's Interior, Okayama University is
located about 8 km to the east of the conference place. It is a
nation-wide joint-use research center, serving the community in Japan.
It's foundation goes back to 1939, when a small medical clinic center
was opened in the small town of Misasa, famous for the hot spring with
a high radium content. The ISEI was founded in 1985, through
reorganization of the (then) Institute for Thermal Spring Research.
The purpose of the ISEI is to conduct research on the origin,
evolution and dynamics of the Earth, and also to make available the
Institute's facilities to researchers in relevant fields outside the
Institute.
